Day 5

“We do not fight against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, the authorities, the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.” – Ephesians 6:12

We’ve adjusted our schedules. We’ve tried to be more consistent. We’ve even taken steps this week. But deep down, we can feel it, something still isn’t shifting like we hoped. Why?

Because behavior can change while the heart stays the same.

And if the heart doesn’t change, the patterns eventually return.

That’s where today takes us.

Not to what we’re doing, but to who we’re becoming.

Daniel didn’t just go through the motions of prayer and fasting. The angel tells him something specific:

“Since the first day that you set your mind to gain understanding and to humble yourself…”

That word matters, humble.

Because the deepest work God does is not external, it’s internal.

We tend to focus on outcomes:

“God, fix this situation.”
“God, change this person.”
“God, open this door.”

But God is often focused on something deeper:

“Will we trust Him here?”
“Will we surrender this?”
“Will we let Him reshape how we think and respond?”

That’s a different kind of work.

And if we’re honest, it’s harder.

Because it requires letting go of control.

Let’s talk about what that looks like in real life.

We may be trying to fix our stress, but underneath it is a need for control.
We may be trying to fix our reactions, but underneath them is unresolved frustration or pride.
We may be trying to fix our inconsistency, but underneath it is a divided heart.

External effort can only go so far.

At some point, we have to ask:

What is happening inside us?

Because that’s where the real battle is being fought.

Daniel didn’t approach God as someone entitled to answers.

He approached God as someone dependent.

That’s humility.

Not weakness.
Not insecurity.

Clarity.

It’s recognizing:

“We don’t have what we need within ourselves.”
“We cannot fix this on our own.”
“We need God, not just His help, but His leadership.”

And that posture changes everything.

Because when we humble ourselves, we become teachable.

We become aware of things we used to overlook.
We become open to correction instead of defensive.
We become sensitive to God’s voice instead of resistant to it.

But if we’re honest, this is where tension rises again.

Because humility confronts things we would rather avoid.

It exposes pride.

The need to be right.
The need to be in control.
The resistance to being corrected.

It exposes fear.

Fear of letting go.
Fear of trusting God fully.
Fear of what might happen if we actually surrender.

It exposes divided priorities.

Saying God matters, but living like other things matter more.

This is why internal transformation feels uncomfortable.

Because it’s not just about doing something different, it’s about becoming someone different.

And that requires surrender.

Not once.
But repeatedly.

Daniel didn’t just fast, he humbled himself.

And that humility positioned him to receive strength.

When the angel finally speaks, Daniel is physically weak, but spiritually ready.

That’s important.

Because God often allows our strength to run out so we can stop depending on it.

Daniel couldn’t stand.
He had no strength left.

And then the angel speaks, and his strength returns.

God strengthens what is surrendered.

Not what is self-sufficient.
Not what is controlled.

What is surrendered.

So let’s bring this into our lives.

What is God trying to change in us, not just around us?

Is it our need to control outcomes?
Is it our tendency to react instead of respond?
Is it our resistance to slowing down and actually seeking Him?
Is it our reliance on our own understanding instead of trusting His?

This is not about piling on pressure.

It’s about inviting transformation.

Because when the internal shifts, the external begins to follow.

A changed heart leads to changed responses.
A surrendered mind leads to clearer direction.
A humbled posture leads to greater strength.

And our families feel this more than anything.

Our internal world shapes our external environment.

If we are anxious, our homes will feel it.
If we are reactive, our relationships will carry it.
If we are distracted, our families can drift with us.

But if we are anchored…
If we are surrendered…
If we are being shaped by God…

That changes everything.

Not overnight.

But steadily.

Because transformation is not an event, it’s a process.

And that process is happening right now.

So today, let’s go deeper.

Let’s not just ask, “What do we need to do?”

Let’s ask, “What does God want to change in us?”

Let’s sit with that.

Let’s not rush past it.

Let’s allow God to bring something specific to the surface.

And when He does, let’s not defend it.

Let’s not explain it away.

Let’s surrender it.

Because that’s where real change begins.

Not at the surface.

But in the heart.

And when the heart changes, everything else eventually follows.
