JESUS’ MOST IMPORTANT PARABLE - WEEK 1
Day 4
“A man reaps what he sows. Whoever sows to please their flesh, from the flesh will reap destruction; whoever sows to please the Spirit, from the Spirit will reap eternal life. Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.” - Galatians 6:7–9
We can spend years praying for a different harvest while continuing to plant the same seeds. At some point, faith has to move from what we hope God will do someday to what we are willing to plant today.
Scripture repeatedly connects sowing and reaping.
That doesn't mean every hardship is the result of something we did wrong. We live in a broken world, and faithful people experience suffering.
But it does mean our daily choices matter.
Small decisions become habits.
Habits shape character.
Character influences families.
Families influence generations.
So today we can make this practical.
Instead of asking, “What do we want our lives to look like five years from now?” we can ask:
“What seed would produce that kind of life?”
If we want a stronger marriage, what seeds strengthen marriage?
Conversation.
Affection.
Forgiveness.
Time.
Prayer.
Encouragement.
Intentionality.
If we want children who love God's Word, what seeds help cultivate that?
Letting them see us reading Scripture.
Talking about Jesus outside of church.
Praying together.
Serving together.
Making God's house a priority.
Answering their questions honestly.
If we want peace in our homes, we can plant seeds of gentleness.
If we want financial freedom, we can plant seeds of wisdom, generosity, restraint, and planning.
If we want spiritual depth, we can plant God's Word consistently.
The challenge is that seeds seem unimpressive.
Reading Scripture for fifteen minutes doesn't immediately transform our family.
One date night doesn't repair years of distance.
One apology doesn't erase every wound.
One encouraging conversation with our child doesn't immediately change their direction.
But farmers understand something impatient people don't:
We don't judge seeds by what happens the day they're planted.
We keep planting.
This is where consistency becomes spiritual.
Some of us don't need another dramatic encounter with God. We need to obey what God has already shown us—again tomorrow, and again the day after that.
So let's make today tangible.
Choose one area where we desire a different harvest.
Then choose one seed.
Keep it small enough to actually do.
Maybe we read one chapter of Scripture before touching our phones.
Maybe we tell our spouse one specific thing we appreciate.
Maybe we pray over our children before bed.
Maybe we contact someone and finally join a small group.
Maybe we turn something off so we can be fully present at dinner.
Maybe we apologize without defending ourselves.
Maybe we encourage someone who is struggling.
Then tomorrow, plant again.
We cannot manufacture the harvest.
But we can faithfully sow.
God is responsible for outcomes we cannot control. We are responsible for obedience we can control.
So let's give God something to work with today.
Plant the seed.
Water it tomorrow.
Trust God with the harvest.
And don't give up simply because nothing seems to be happening yet.
There is life developing beneath the surface.
