JESUS’ MOST IMPORTANT PARABLE - WEEK 1
Day 6
“Others, like seed sown on good soil, hear the word, accept it, and produce a crop—some thirty, some sixty, some a hundred times what was sown.” - Mark 4:20
What could God grow through one family that genuinely becomes good soil? We may never know how far one generation's faithful obedience can reach.
It's easy to read Jesus' parable and focus on everything that went wrong.
Hard soil.
Rocky soil.
Thorny soil.
Three disappointing outcomes.
Then comes the good soil.
And suddenly everything changes.
The good soil doesn't merely survive.
It multiplies.
Thirty times.
Sixty times.
A hundred times.
That's the power of a life surrendered to God's Word.
Good soil hears the Word.
Good soil accepts the Word.
Good soil obeys the Word.
And eventually good soil reproduces the Word in others.
That's discipleship.
Our goal isn't merely to become people who attend church.
We want to become people whose lives produce spiritual fruit.
We want our marriages to show what grace looks like.
We want our children to see repentance modeled instead of merely preached.
We want our homes to become places where people experience hospitality, generosity, truth, forgiveness, and prayer.
We want the people around us to encounter Jesus because His Word is producing something visible in us.
And there is an even deeper layer to Jesus' picture of the seed.
Jesus Himself would become the Seed.
Shortly before the cross, He said:
John 12:24 — “Very truly I tell us, unless a kernel of wheat falls to the ground and dies, it remains only a single seed. But if it dies, it produces many seeds.”
Jesus wasn't simply teaching us a principle He expected us to follow.
He lived it.
He gave Himself.
The Seed went into the ground.
Jesus died for our sin, was buried, and rose again.
And from His death came life.
Our salvation isn't the harvest of our good behavior.
It is the harvest of His sacrifice.
That changes how we approach everything we've talked about this week.
We aren't trying to become good soil so God will finally love us.
We aren't planting spiritual seeds to earn His approval.
We plant because Christ has already given Himself for us.
Grace comes first.
Then obedience becomes our response.
And now Jesus invites us to participate in the same kingdom pattern.
Receive.
Grow.
Produce.
Multiply.
So let's finish this week by doing something real.
Let's identify one rock that needs removing.
One thorn that needs pulling.
One relationship that needs strengthening.
One spiritual discipline that needs restarting.
One person we need beside us.
And one seed we will consistently plant.
Then let's think beyond ourselves.
What could that seed mean for our children?
Our grandchildren?
Our friends?
Our church?
Someone we haven't even met yet?
We often cannot see what God has placed inside one small act of obedience.
We can count the seeds inside an apple, but only God knows how many apples can eventually come from one seed.
That's why small obedience matters.
Our families don't need fairy tales.
They need faithful farmers.
People willing to prepare the soil, plant the Word, pull the weeds, endure difficult seasons, trust God for rain, and keep showing up.
So let's become good soil.
Let's keep planting.
Let's keep trusting.
And let's believe that the God who gave the Seed is still capable of producing a harvest far greater than anything we can see today.
