Plans, Purposes, & Pursuits Week 2
Day 4
“Before he had finished praying, Rebekah came out with her jar on her shoulder…” - Genesis 24:15
What if the breakthrough we’re waiting for is hidden inside a simple act of obedience we’ve been overlooking?
We tend to look for God’s will in big, dramatic moments, clear signs, open doors, undeniable confirmations. But in Genesis 24, the moment that changed everything didn’t look dramatic at all.
It looked ordinary.
A woman carrying water.
A simple request.
An opportunity to serve.
And yet, that ordinary moment revealed extraordinary character.
Here’s what we have to understand: God’s direction is often revealed through consistent, everyday faithfulness, not occasional big decisions.
Rebekah didn’t know she was stepping into her future. She wasn’t trying to impress anyone. She wasn’t performing for a reward.
She was simply being who she already was.
That’s what made the moment powerful.
When the servant asked for water, she didn’t just meet the need, she exceeded it. She volunteered to water ten camels, something that would have taken time, strength, and effort.
This wasn’t convenient.
This wasn’t quick.
This was costly.
Multiple trips back and forth
Physical exhaustion
Serving a complete stranger
No recognition, no applause
And yet she did it anyway.
Why?
Because that’s who she was at her core.
And here’s the principle we can’t miss: Extra blessing follows extra effort.
Not effort to earn God’s love, but effort that flows from a heart aligned with Him.
God is not looking for perfection, He is looking for faithfulness.
And faithfulness shows up in:
How we treat people when there’s nothing in it for us
How we respond to small opportunities
How we handle what feels insignificant
Because those moments are never actually insignificant.
They are revealing.
Rebekah’s willingness to serve showed:
Her humility
Her work ethic
Her attentiveness
Her generosity
All before she ever knew what was at stake.
And that’s how God often confirms direction, not through what we say, but through what we consistently do.
So what does this look like for us today?
Not theoretical. Not someday. Today.
Take one intentional step:
At home: Serve without being asked. Do something that makes someone else’s day easier.
At work: Go beyond what’s required. Show integrity and effort even when no one is watching.
In relationships: Be present. Listen fully. Care deeply instead of rushing through interactions.
Spiritually: Set aside intentional time with God, not out of obligation, but out of priority.
This is where many people miss it, they are waiting for clarity before they move.
But often, clarity comes after obedience.
We don’t always see the full picture first.
We take a step… and then God reveals the next one.
Rebekah didn’t know:
That those camels carried gifts for her
That her life was about to change
That her simple act of service would position her for God’s plan
She just served.
And that’s the challenge for us.
Can we be faithful when:
No one is watching?
There is no immediate reward?
It feels inconvenient or unnoticed?
Because those are the moments where character is formed.
And character, not talent, not charm, not emotion, is what sustains God’s will in our lives.
We often focus on finding the right opportunity.
But God is focused on forming the right person.
And formation happens in the small, repeated decisions of daily life.
So don’t underestimate today.
Don’t overlook what’s in front of you.
Don’t wait for something bigger.
Take a step.
Serve. Show up. Go the extra mile. Choose faithfulness in something small.
Because what feels like a simple act of obedience may actually be positioning us for something far greater than we can currently see.
