Plans, Purposes, & Pursuits Week 3

Day 5

“Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.” - Romans 12:2

We can be in the right place, doing the right things, and still limit what God wants to do in our lives because of how we think.

That’s the part we often overlook.

We focus on actions, what to do, where to go, how to respond. But underneath every action is a mindset, and that mindset is either aligned with God’s truth or shaped by fear, culture, and past experiences.

Isaac didn’t just live differently, he thought differently.

While others saw famine and pulled back, Isaac saw an opportunity to trust God. While others reacted out of fear, Isaac responded out of confidence in God’s promise.

That kind of thinking doesn’t happen automatically. It is formed over time by what we consistently allow into our mind.

And this is where the deeper work begins.

Because many believers are trying to live a blessed life with an unrenewed mind.

We say we trust God, but internally we think:

  • “I don’t know if things will work out.”

  • “There’s not enough for everyone.”

  • “If I step out, I might lose what I have.”

  • “Other people’s success limits mine.”

That’s not just insecurity, that’s a scarcity mindset.

And scarcity thinking will always fight against faith.

This is exactly what Isaac encountered in Gerar. The name itself points to something deeper, a “small place.” Not just physically, but mentally.

Small thinking says:

  • Stay safe

  • Don’t risk

  • Protect what’s yours

  • Assume limitation

And if we’re not careful, we can live our entire life in that kind of internal environment, even while God is trying to lead us into something greater.

Here’s the tension:

God’s promises are expansive, but our thinking can be restrictive.

And if our thinking doesn’t change, we will resist the very blessings God is trying to bring into our lives.

That’s why Scripture doesn’t just call us to behave differently, it calls us to be transformed by the renewing of our mind.

Transformation happens when truth replaces lies.

So let’s slow this down and get practical.

What thoughts have been shaping our lives lately?

Be honest:

  • Are we expecting God to move, or bracing for disappointment?

  • Are we thinking with faith, or filtering everything through fear?

  • Are we seeing opportunity, or only obstacles?

Because our internal dialogue matters more than we think.

It determines:

  • Whether we take steps of obedience

  • Whether we persevere through difficulty

  • Whether we recognize God’s hand at work

A “blessed mindset” is not about ignoring problems. Isaac didn’t deny the famine, the opposition, or the conflict.

He simply refused to let those things define his expectations.

He believed:

  • God is my source, not the environment

  • God’s Word is greater than my circumstances

  • God can bless me wherever He places me

That’s the shift.

And this is where we have to engage intentionally.

We don’t drift into renewed thinking, we train our mind into it.

So today, go deeper:

  • Identify one recurring negative or limiting thought
(Example: “I’ll never get ahead,” “This will never change,” “I’m stuck here.”)

  • Find a truth from God’s Word that directly confronts it
(Example: “God is my provider,” “God directs my steps,” “God is with me.”)

  • Replace that thought consistently
Not once, but every time it shows up

  • Speak it out loud if needed
There is power in declaring truth over our lives

Because over time, what we repeat becomes what we believe.

And what we believe becomes how we live.

Here’s something else we have to recognize:

Small thinking doesn’t just affect us, it affects what flows through us.

Remember, Isaac wasn’t just blessed for himself. God’s promise was that through him, others would be blessed.

The same is true for us.

When our thinking is small:

  • Our generosity shrinks

  • Our vision shrinks

  • Our impact shrinks

But when our mind is renewed by God’s Word:

  • We begin to think beyond ourself

  • We begin to see possibilities where others see limits

  • We begin to live as someone who is blessed to be a blessing

This is why the enemy fights so hard for our mind.

If he can keep our thinking small, fearful, and limited, he doesn’t have to stop our actions, we’ll limit ourselves.

But when our mind is renewed, everything changes.

We start:

  • Stepping out when others hesitate

  • Trusting God when others panic

  • Staying faithful when others quit

And over time, our life begins to reflect the truth we’ve been building into our mind.

So don’t rush past this.

God is not just trying to change our situation,
He is reshaping how we think so we can sustain what He wants to do in our lives.

And the question today is simple:

What needs to change in our thinking… so we can fully step into what God has already promised?
