THE ROCK | Week 7
Day 4
“Resist him, standing firm in the faith, because you know that the family of believers throughout the world is undergoing the same kind of sufferings.” - 1 Peter 5:9
We don’t lose ground all at once, we lose it one small compromise at a time. So why do we keep waiting for a big moment to change instead of taking a small stand today?
Because small steps don’t feel powerful.
But in the Kingdom of God, they are everything.
Peter doesn’t give us a complicated strategy here. After everything he’s learned, the failure, the restoration, the leadership, he boils it down to something simple: Resist. Stand. Stay.
Not dramatic.
Not emotional.
Not complicated.
Just steady.
And that’s where many people struggle.
We want breakthrough to feel like a moment.
God builds it through consistency.
We want a sudden shift.
God works through daily decisions.
We want to feel different first.
God asks us to act different first.
Peter says, “Resist him.”
That word “resist” literally means to stand against pressure without moving.
It paints a picture of someone planting their feet and refusing to give ground.
So let’s make this real: Where have we been slowly giving ground?
Because most of the time, it doesn’t happen all at once.
It looks like:
Letting our thought life drift unchecked
Skipping time with God because we’re busy
Justifying a “small” compromise
Withdrawing from accountability
Numbing out instead of engaging
And over time, those small shifts become strongholds.
So today isn’t about fixing everything.
It’s about choosing one place, and taking it back.
Take a step today. Not tomorrow. Not when we feel ready. Today.
Here’s what that can look like:
1. Interrupt the Pattern
If there’s a cycle we keep falling into, don’t wait for it to pass, interrupt it.
If your mind starts spiraling → stop and pray out loud
If temptation shows up → physically remove yourself from the situation
If discouragement hits → speak truth, not feelings
Resistance is not passive, it’s active.
2. Rebuild One Discipline
We don’t need ten new habits, we need one consistent one.
Set aside 10-15 minutes with God today
Read Scripture slowly and intentionally
Sit with it instead of rushing through it
Because consistency builds strength.
And strength creates stability.
3. Invite Accountability
The enemy thrives in isolation.
So break it.
Text someone you trust
Be honest about where you’re struggling
Ask them to check in with you
This isn’t weakness, it’s wisdom.
Peter learned this after failing alone.
4. Strengthen Your Response
We don’t rise to the level of our intentions, we fall to the level of our preparation.
So decide ahead of time:
“When this thought comes, I will respond this way.”
“When I feel this pressure, I will do this instead.”
That’s how resistance becomes consistent.
And here’s something powerful Peter reminds us of: “You are not alone.”
The struggles you face? Others are facing them too.
The pressure you feel? Others feel it too.
The fight you’re in? You’re not the only one in it.
One of the enemy’s most effective lies is this:
“No one else deals with this like you do.”
But Peter exposes that lie.
There is a global family of believers walking through the same battles, standing, resisting, growing.
And that means something important:
Our struggle is not a sign of failure, it’s a sign that we’re in the fight.
So don’t be discouraged by the resistance.
Expect it.
And meet it with consistency.
Because every time we stand our ground, even in a small way, we are strengthening something inside of us.
Every time we say “no” to what pulls us back…
We are saying “yes” to who God is forming us to become.
And over time, those small stands turn into a steady life.
A firm life.
A grounded life.
The kind of life Peter eventually lived.
So today, don’t wait for a big breakthrough moment.
Take one small, intentional step.
Stand your ground.
And stay there.
Because that’s how transformation actually happens.
