THE BOOK OF DANIEL | WEEK 6
Day 1
“As I looked, ‘thrones were set in place, and the Ancient of Days took his seat. His clothing was as white as snow; the hair of his head was white like wool. His throne was flaming with fire, and its wheels were all ablaze. A river of fire was flowing, coming out from before him. Thousands upon thousands attended him; ten thousand times ten thousand stood before him. The court was seated, and the books were opened.’” – Daniel 7:9–10
We turn on the news, scroll our phone, or just look at our own life, and sometimes it feels like everything is shifting, unstable, and uncertain. Leaders change. Culture moves. Situations spiral. And if we’re not careful, it starts to feel like no one is really in control.
But Daniel shows us something different.
Before he ever sees peace, he sees chaos. Before he sees the throne, he sees the storm.
Four winds collide. The sea churns violently. Out of that unrest, beasts rise, powerful, strange, terrifying kingdoms that dominate the world stage. Nothing about the scene feels calm or secure. It feels unpredictable. Dangerous. Out of control.
And then, without warning, the vision shifts.
The camera pans away from the chaos of earth…
…and suddenly we are standing in the courtroom of heaven.
“Thrones were set in place…”
Not scrambling. Not reacting. Not being assembled in panic.
Set in place.
Everything is already arranged. Everything is already established.
And then Daniel sees Him, the Ancient of Days.
God is not rushing. He is not worried. He is not pacing the floor of heaven trying to figure out what to do next. He takes His seat.
That detail matters more than we think.
Because He only sits down when He is in complete authority.
God is not standing because He’s threatened.
He is seated because He reigns.
Fire surrounds His throne, symbol of purity, power, and judgment. A river flows from His presence, unstoppable, cleansing, overwhelming. Thousands upon thousands stand before Him, not as equals, but as servants. The court is called to order. The books are opened.
This is not chaos.
This is control.
Here’s the core idea again, and you need to let it settle deep into your heart:
God is in control of who is in control.
Every kingdom Daniel saw, Babylon, Medo-Persia, Greece, Rome, felt permanent in its moment. Each one looked unstoppable while it was rising. Each one shaped history. Each one demanded allegiance.
And every single one fell.
Because no earthly kingdom is ultimate.
Only one throne is.
This is what God is revealing to Daniel, not just for information, but for formation.
Because if we only focus on the beasts, we will live anxious, reactive, and afraid.
But if we lift our eyes to the throne, something changes in us.
We begin to realize:
Nothing in our life has caught God off guard
No authority exists outside His permission
No season is outside His control
No chaos is beyond His reach
Daniel is not a young man anymore when he sees this. He has lived through exile, leadership changes, threats on his life, and cultural pressure. He has served under multiple kings. He has watched empires rise and fall firsthand.
And now, near the end of his life, God gives him clarity:
What you experienced on earth was always being governed from heaven.
That same truth is for us.
The things that feel unstable in our life right now, God is not absent from them.
The things that feel uncertain, God is not confused by them.
The things that feel out of control, are still under His authority.
So today, let’s not start with our circumstances.
Start with the throne.
Because when we anchor our life there, everything else, no matter how chaotic, gets put back into its proper place.
