THE BOOK OF DANIEL | WEEK 6
Day 2
“Daniel said: ‘In my vision at night I looked, and there before me were the four winds of heaven churning up the great sea.’” – Daniel 7:2
We don’t have to live in Babylon to feel like our world is being shaken.
Maybe it’s not beasts rising out of a sea, but it’s bills piling up, tension at home, decisions we didn’t expect to make, or a quiet anxiety that just won’t leave us alone.
We wake up some days already tired, not physically, but mentally and emotionally.
Our mind is already racing.
Our heart already feels heavy.
And before anything even happens, we already feel behind.
That’s what the “restless sea” feels like.
Daniel’s vision isn’t just prophetic, it’s descriptive. It describes what life often feels like from our perspective.
Winds blowing.
Waters churning.
Things moving that we didn’t start and can’t stop.
And if we’re honest, most of us don’t struggle to believe God is in control in general…
we struggle to believe He’s in control right here.
Right here in:
the conversation we’re avoiding
the pressure we’re carrying
the uncertainty we can’t fix
the situation that keeps us up at night
Because this is where faith becomes personal.
Daniel doesn’t say the sea was naturally restless.
He says “the four winds of heaven were stirring it.”
That changes everything.
Because it means the chaos wasn’t random.
Heaven was involved.
Let's sit with that for a moment.
What if the very thing that feels like it’s disrupting our life…
is actually something God is using to move our life?
What if the pressure isn’t just pressure?
What if it’s positioning?
What if the discomfort isn’t meaningless?
What if it’s preparation?
We tend to assume that peace means God is present… and disruption means something is wrong.
But in Daniel 7, God is present in the disruption.
He is the one allowing the winds to blow.
That doesn’t mean everything that happens is good.
But it does mean nothing that happens is wasted.
And this is where we have to locate ourselves in the story.
Because it’s easy to read about kingdoms and prophecy and think, “That’s big picture stuff.”
But this is deeply personal.
Where is our “sea” being stirred right now?
Is it in our family, where things feel tense, distant, or fragile?
Is it in our mind, where anxiety keeps circling the same thoughts?
Is it in our future, where nothing feels clear or secure?
Is it in our faith, where we’re trying to trust God, but it feels harder than it used to?
Here’s the truth we often resist:
We want God to calm the sea… but sometimes God is using the sea to shape us.
And if we miss that, we will spend our life trying to escape the very places where God is working the most.
Daniel didn’t get out of Babylon when things got hard.
He learned how to recognize God in the middle of it.
That’s the shift.
Not “How do I get out of this?”
But “Where is God in this?”
Because He is there.
Even in the tension.
Even in the unknown.
Even in the waiting.
The message reminds us that the world is like a restless sea because God is stirring things to bring about His will.
Which means our life is not just a collection of random moments.
There is movement with purpose.
There is pressure with direction.
There is a God who is not distant from our situation, but actively working within it.
So today, instead of asking:
“Why is everything so unsettled?”
Ask a better question:
“God, what are You doing in me through this?”
Because the answer to that question…
will begin to change how we see everything.
