THE BOOK OF DANIEL | WEEK 6
Day 4
“Be strong and very courageous. Be careful to obey all the law my servant Moses gave you; do not turn from it to the right or to the left, that you may be successful wherever you go.” – Joshua 1:7
We say we trust God, but what are we actually doing daily that reflects that trust?
Because trust is not proven in what we say in a moment of worship…
it’s revealed in what we do on a normal Thursday.
Joshua is standing at the edge of a promise that has been delayed for 40 years. The land is in front of him. The opportunity is real. The responsibility is his.
And God doesn’t start by giving him a battle plan.
He gives him a pattern.
“Be careful to obey…”
“Do not turn…”
“Stay aligned…”
That’s where we sometimes miss it.
We want God to show us how to win externally,
but God is focused on aligning us internally.
Because victory in our life will never outgrow alignment with God’s Word.
We can have opportunities and still miss purpose.
We can have desire and still lack direction.
We can be motivated and still be misaligned.
That’s why God tells Joshua, before you step into anything…
stay anchored to My Word.
Not occasionally.
Not when things fall apart.
Not when you feel spiritual.
Daily.
Consistently.
Intentionally.
Because the real battle isn’t just around us, it’s in our thinking.
“Do not turn from it to the right or to the left…”
That phrase speaks to drift.
And drift is subtle.
We don’t wake up one day and decide to abandon truth.
We slowly stop prioritizing it.
We get busy.
We get distracted.
We get tired.
And over time, our thinking starts being shaped more by culture, emotion, and pressure than by God’s Word.
And when our thinking drifts, our life follows.
That’s why God says:
“Be careful.”
Pay attention.
Guard this.
Because our direction is tied to our devotion.
Being fed up with where we are is not enough, we have to learn how to think and speak differently.
Some people are frustrated with their life…
but they are feeding their mind the same things every day.
Same inputs.
Same thoughts.
Same reactions.
And then we wonder why nothing changes.
But transformation doesn’t happen because we want it.
It happens because we renew our mind.
God’s Word doesn’t just inform us, it reforms us.
It reshapes how we:
interpret situations
respond to pressure
view ourself
trust God
So here’s the step today, but lean into it with intention, not routine:
1. Spend intentional time in Scripture
Not rushed. Not distracted.
Even if it’s 10-15 minutes, be present.
Read slowly. Let it speak.
Ask: What is God showing me about who He is?
2. Reflect on what it says about God’s control
Don’t just read, process.
Where does this truth confront our fear?
Where does it challenge your assumptions?
Where does it call us to trust?
3. Speak truth over the situation, not fear
This is where it becomes real.
When anxiety rises, respond with truth.
When doubt creeps in, answer it with Scripture.
When our emotions feel loud, anchor them in what God has said.
Because what we repeatedly say… shapes what we eventually believe.
And what we believe… shapes how we live.
This is how we take ground spiritually.
Not by trying harder.
Not by forcing change.
Not by relying on willpower.
But by allowing God’s Word to retrain our thinking until obedience becomes natural.
Over time, something begins to shift.
We start responding differently.
We start seeing clearly.
We start trusting quicker.
And one day we realize, we’re not just reading the Word anymore…
The Word is shaping us.
That’s how ground is taken.
One day.
One decision.
One aligned step at a time.
