Day 5

“Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they?” - Matthew 6:26

Maybe the deepest reason you worry isn't because you think your problem is too big. Maybe somewhere underneath the fear, you've forgotten how deeply you are loved.

Read Jesus' question again:

“Are you not much more valuable than they?”

At first glance, Matthew 6 looks like a teaching about anxiety.

But underneath Jesus' teaching about worry is a teaching about identity.

Jesus keeps directing people toward their Father.

“Your heavenly Father feeds them.”

“Your heavenly Father knows that you need them.”

And then comes the question:

Don't you know how valuable you are to Him?

Worry whispers something subtle.

You're on your own.

Everything depends on you.

If you don't control this, everything could fall apart.

No one is coming to help.

Jesus answers:

You have a Father.

Not a distant observer.

Not an indifferent Creator.

Your Father.

For those who belong to Christ, this is one of the most transformative truths we can learn.

You are not trying to earn God's attention.

You are not trying to convince Him to care.

In Christ, you have been brought into God's family.

You are loved.

Known.

Seen.

Jesus points to birds and flowers because He wants us to reason from God's care for creation toward God's greater care for His children.

Look around.

God sustains what He created.

Then Jesus essentially asks, Do you really think He has forgotten you?

Sometimes the heart needs to hear this more than the mind needs another explanation.

God sees you.

God knows what you're carrying.

God knows the pressure you're under.

God knows what keeps waking you up at night.

God knows what you haven't told anyone.

And God's care for you is ultimately demonstrated in Jesus.

The cross forever settles the question of whether God loves you.

God did not merely send encouragement.

He gave His Son.

Jesus entered our broken world, carried our sin, died our death, and rose again so that those who trust Him could be reconciled to God.

So when worry begins telling you that you have been forgotten, look at the cross.

You have not been forgotten.

When worry says you're alone, remember Christ.

When worry says everything depends on you, remember your Father.

This is where God wants to do something deeper than simply making you feel less anxious.

He wants to transform the way you see yourself.

Some of us learned early that security came from control.

Maybe life was unpredictable growing up.

Maybe people disappointed you.

Maybe promises were broken.

Maybe you learned, If I don't take care of myself, nobody will.

Then you came to Christ, but that survival instinct came with you.

You love God.

You believe Scripture.

But deep inside, you're still trying to carry life alone.

Jesus invites you into something different.

Childlike trust.

A child doesn't understand the mortgage.

A child doesn't know how electricity reaches the house.

A child doesn't understand insurance premiums, retirement accounts, or grocery budgets.

A healthy child simply knows:

Someone who loves me is taking care of me.

That doesn't mean God's children become irresponsible.

Quite the opposite.

Because we trust our Father, we can obey Him without being paralyzed by fear.

Today, don't merely ask God to remove your worry.

Ask Him to reveal what the worry says about how you're viewing Him—and how you're viewing yourself.

Ask:

“Father, where am I living like an orphan instead of Your child?”

Then sit with Jesus' question:

“Are you not much more valuable than they?”

Yes.

You are valuable to God.

Not because you performed perfectly today.

Not because you figured everything out.

Not because you controlled every outcome.

Your deepest confidence is that you belong to Him through Christ.

Sometimes the greatest weapon against worry isn't knowing what God will do next.

It's remembering whose you are.
