WHAT JESUS SAID ABOUT THE HOLY SPIRIT
Day 2
“But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide us into all the truth.” - John 16:13
We can ask God for direction while moving so quickly that we never create enough space to hear Him. Sometimes the problem is not that God has stopped leading; it is that our lives have become too loud to notice.
Think about the pace of an ordinary week.
Phones are buzzing. Children need something. Work follows us home. Calendars are full. Decisions pile up. Conversations are happening while we are already thinking about the next thing.
Then we pray, “God, show us what to do.”
And five minutes later, we are moving again.
But Jesus promised that the Spirit of truth would guide us.
Guidance assumes relationship.
It means we are learning His voice, His ways, and His Word.
Sometimes that guidance comes through Scripture. Sometimes there is a quiet inward sense that we should move forward, or that we should slow down.
The important word is sometimes.
Our feelings are not automatically the voice of God.
In fact, our feelings can tell us exactly the opposite of what God has said. We may feel like holding a grudge when Scripture tells us to forgive. We may feel like worrying when Jesus tells us to trust. We may feel like compromising because obedience seems costly.
So we don't follow feelings.
We follow God's Word.
But as our minds become saturated with Scripture, the Spirit can use an inward prompting that aligns with His Word to direct our attention.
Maybe we suddenly feel that we should call someone.
Maybe we cannot shake the sense that we need to apologize to our spouse.
Maybe we are preparing to make a major decision, but something within us keeps saying, Wait.
That is where discernment matters.
Sometimes faith means moving.
Sometimes faith means waiting.
And for some of us, waiting is much harder.
We like progress. We like movement. We like solving problems. When something needs to happen, we want to make it happen.
But there are moments when one of the most spiritual things we can do is pump the brakes.
If there is uncertainty about a major direction and Scripture is not forcing immediate action, waiting can be wisdom.
“When in doubt, wait” does not mean we become passive. It means we refuse to let pressure become our leader.
We pray.
We search Scripture.
We seek godly wisdom.
We watch what God is doing.
And we give the Spirit room to confirm the next step.
This becomes especially important in our families. Our hurried decisions rarely affect only us. Where we live, how we spend, what we prioritize, what we allow into our homes, and what commitments we make can shape the people we love.
So perhaps the question for us today isn't merely, “Is God speaking?”
Maybe the better question is:
“Are we becoming people who recognize His leadership?”
That happens as we stay close to His Word.
Before making the next decision today, we can slow down long enough to ask:
Does this direction agree with Scripture?
Are we being driven by fear, ego, impatience, or pressure?
Is there godly wisdom confirming this?
Have we actually prayed about it?
Do we need to move, or do we need to wait?
We don't need God to reveal the next twenty years.
We need enough light to obey Him today.
The Scout knows the road ahead.
We simply need to follow.
